These guards give your gutter extra protection for your gutters. However, as useful as gutter guards may seem, they won’t totally eliminate the need to clean your guttersIt will only decrease the frequency of doing the task.

Types of Gutter Guards

There are different types of gutter guards that you can install on your roof. Each of them is specially designed to prevent clogging by keeping all debris out and allowing water to flow freely. Choose the right type of gutter guard for the best results. Your choices are:

  1. Screen

Screened gutters are the most common these days. The screens are placed over the gutters to allow the water to flow through and while effectively blocking all type of debris. The screen used on the gutter is the same one used on the window. It usually comes in a fine mesh of several layers. Do note though, that such screen needs to be cleaned every so often as well.

  1. Inserts

Inserts are also quite popular, as they are the cheapest options. They’re fairly easy to install as well. Inserts are special types of foams that allow water to go through while filtering the debris. However, very small pieces of debris may still get through, which is why they have to be cleaned from time to time.

  1. Reverse curves

Of all your choices for a gutter guard, the reverse curves are the ones that are most advanced. They work by directing water over the curve and towards a small slit. This allows gravity to force the debris to fall off. Among your choices, this type is also the most expensive, not to mention it requires a bit of maintenance. Even so, they’re quite efficient, although they may retain water during heavy storms.
